MTN Uganda recorded a higher average growth rate in profit than in revenue
In 2017, MTN Uganda recorded a 58% increase in profit with only a 9% revenue increase. On average, the telco had an 18.2% yearly increase in profit between 2016 and 2023, while revenue growth was at 9.2% yearly.

MTN gained more than 4 million active internet subscribers in twelve months
Between September 2022 to August 2023, 3 of Nigeria's mobile Internet providers saw a combined 8 million increase in their active mobile Internet subscribers, with MTN gaining the most, followed by Globacom and Airtel. 9mobile on the other hand, recorded almost 1 million decline.

In 2022, MTN Group spent ZAR 12.7b paying salaries and incurring other staff costs (an 8.1% increase from 2021), amounting to about 6.1% of its total revenue (ZAR 207b). After accounting for staff costs, they still pocketed ZAR 194b - 93.9% of the revenue for the year.

9mobile has lost 13.2 million Internet subscribers in seven years after its peaking in April 2016
In the past seven years, 9mobile has experienced a consistent decline in its Internet subscriber base, with an average loss of 134k subscribers monthly since June 2016. This decline began after it reached 17.2 million subscribers — its highest ever — in April 2016. As of July 2023, 9mobile's Internet subscriber count was 3.9m. MTN had the largest share (68.1m) of Nigeria's 159m Internet subscribers as of July 2023. Glo and Airtel had almost equal shares, with 43.9m and 42.9m subscribers, respectively.
