Africa’s digital backbone is growing fast, and data centres are leading the charge. Ranked by electrical power capacity, measured in megawatts (MW), this list highlights the continent’s 10 largest data centres. Power capacity is a key metric because it directly reflects how much computing, storage, and cooling infrastructure a facility can support. The higher the megawatt capacity, the more robust and scalable the data centre’s operations.
Leading the pack is South Africa’s Teraco Data Environments with a massive 200 MW, followed by Africa Data Centres, also in South Africa, with 120 MW. Nigeria’s Rack Centre and MainOne each provide over 50 MW, reflecting West Africa’s growing digital demand. From Morocco to Kenya and Ethiopia, the presence of major data centres underscores how Africa is preparing for a data-driven future.
Though it doesn’t make the top 10 yet, MTN’s new Sifiso Dabengwa Data Centre in Lagos adds to this momentum, starting at 4.5 MW and aiming to scale up to 20 MW. It further boosts Nigeria’s digital infrastructure push.
