Nigeria’s electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply sector took the biggest hit in H1 2026. The sector has accounted for an average of about 0.7% of Nigeria’s real GDP over the period shown.
Its GDP fell 11.6% year-on-year, from ₦800.2 billion in H1 2025 to ₦707.1 billion. This also brought output below the ₦708.5 billion recorded in H1 2024.
The decline stands out across the economy.
Of the 19 broad activities tracked, only "Other Services" (-1.4%) also contracted, while sectors such as arts and entertainment, water supply, information and communication, and financial services all recorded growth.
