Nigeria’s budget allocation to the sports sector has undergone significant shifts over the past five years, with 2025 recording a significant rebound since the separation of the Youth and Sports budget in 2024. The 2025 sports allocation alone surged to ₦113 billion—a 243.8% increase in 2025. This is a threefold increase from ₦32.9B (2024), which was the budget for sports development alone in 2024.
Between 2021 and 2023, allocations for both youth and sports development hovered around ₦170–₦193 billion. Then there was a substantial increase to ₦248.8B (both Youth and Sports) in 2024, after which it almost doubled again in 2025 (₦584.1B).
