As of the 23rd of June, 2025, Libya continues to offer the lowest fuel prices in Africa at just $0.028 per litre, driven by its oil-rich economy and longstanding fuel subsidy regime. Angola ($0.327), Algeria ($0.354), and Egypt ($0.380) also feature among the most affordable, highlighting how domestic production and state intervention help suppress pump prices.
Nigeria, Africa’s top oil producer, places mid-table at $0.586, a reflection of its ongoing shift away from full fuel subsidies. Interestingly, among the top 10 cheapest fuel markets, only Ethiopia and Liberia are non-oil-producing nations, suggesting that ultra-low prices are not exclusive to oil exporters. DR Congo is the only country in this group with fuel costing over $1 per litre, at $1.039.
