Deadpool & Wolverine was the highest-grossing foreign movie at Nigerian cinemas in 2024

  • Four of 2024's top-grossing movies in Nigeria were not among the top 15 globally, showing a local preference for some movies.
  • The world's highest-grossing 2024 movie, Inside Out 2, underperformed in Nigeria
  • Movie franchises and sequels dominated the list, as only two movies were neither a sequel nor part of a franchise.
  • The top 15 foreign titles at the Nigerian box office grossed ₦3.95 billion, more than the top local title's ₦3.37 trillion.

The world's second highest-grossing movie in 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine, was the highest-grossing foreign movie at Nigerian cinemas in 2024. The highest-grossing movie globally, Inside Out 2, ranked 15th in Nigeria, grossing a little over ₦100 million.
From legacy sequels like Gladiators II to fantasy franchises like Dune: Part Two, the top-grossing foreign movies in Nigeria's cinemas were mostly franchises and sequels, largely aligning with global box office trends.
While a foreign movie was not Nigeria's highest-grossing movie, the top 15 foreign movies outperformed the top 15 Nollywood movies at the Nigerian box office, asserting their dominance over the local cinema market. With ₦3.95 billion in ticket sales, the top foreign movies out-earned the leading Nollywood movies by ₦576.39 million.
