Egypt has made progress in renewable energy over the past decade, increasing its installed capacity from 6.2 GW in 2015 to 11.8 GW in 2024. This growth, a 5.6 GW addition, reflects Egypt’s long-term investment in clean energy. While the pace of growth was slow in the early years, major expansions after 2020 significantly boosted capacity, making Egypt one of Africa’s leaders in renewable energy development.
Between 2015 and 2019, capacity barely increased, hovering around 6.2–6.5 GW. But from 2020 onwards, there was a surge, with capacity jumping by over 5 GW in just four years.
