In 2024, the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), disbursed a total of ₦23.92 billion under the NHIA Gateway programme. Kano State emerged as the top recipient, receiving ₦1.43 billion (6%) of the total allocation. It was followed by Jigawa State, which received ₦1.17 billion, and Katsina State, with ₦1.09 billion.
When categorised by geopolitical zones, the North-West states received the highest allocation, accounting for 30% of the total disbursement. The North-East and North-Central states followed with 19.8% and 17.1% respectively. The Southern states received relatively smaller shares, with the South-East and South-South each receiving approximately 11%, while the South-West was allocated 10.3%.
