Messenger's users are deeply concentrated in Asia, with South-Eastern Asia (212 million users) and Southern Asia (170 million users) leading the platform’s user base as of January 2025. Combined, these two regions account for over 40% of all global Messenger users, and the Asian continent accounts for 49.9% of Messenger users. South America, Central America, and Northern Africa also feature prominently, showcasing strong regional traction outside the traditionally dominant North American and European tech ecosystems.
Some regions like Central Asia and Middle Africa still have minimal user representation, suggesting under-penetration or preference for other messaging platforms. Even within Africa, there's a wide variation, with North Africa contributing 7.2% of global users, compared to West Africa’s 1.4% and Southern Africa’s 0.7%.
