Madagascar leads Africa with 85% of its working-age population actively participating in the labour force
At least 80% of adults in Madagascar, Tanzania, and Ethiopia who can work are employed or actively seeking jobs. Across Africa, 63% of working-age people are engaged in the workforce. However, in Algeria, Morocco, and Djibouti, participation is below 45%.

7 of the top 10 countries with the highest unmet need for contraception are African
On #WorldContraceptionDay, it's vital to highlight that in 2023, many women and girls aged 15 to 49 globally still have unmet contraceptive needs. Samoa (28%), Angola (27%), and Liberia (25%) are among the top 10 countries. Notably, seven of the top 10 are African, underscoring the urgent need for better reproductive health services.

Africa's sanitation crisis is alarming, with 17 of the top 20 countries having the highest open defecation rates. Eritrea (67%), Niger (65%), and Chad (63%) lead, putting millions at risk of disease. Even Nigeria, the most populous African country, has 18% of its population practising it.

Cote d'Ivoire produced 73% of Africa's natural rubber production in 2022
Côte d'Ivoire has maintained its title of Africa's largest producer of natural rubber, increasing production by an average of 13% annually. Nigeria was Africa's largest producer of natural rubber in the early 90s until Côte d'Ivoire took the top spot in 1999. As of 2022, its production capacity was 8.6x more than Nigeria's. In 2022, Côte d'Ivoire produced 1.286 million tonnes of natural rubber; Nigeria and Ghana followed with 149.4 thousand tonnes and 117 thousand tonnes, respectively.

Nine of the top ten countries with the highest rate of female child marriage are African
Nine of the top ten countries with the highest rates of female child marriage are in Africa. Niger leads the list, with 76% of women aged 20 to 24 married or in union before 18. Bangladesh is the only non-African country in the top ten, with a rate of 51%.

Only 3 African countries had 100% access to electricity as of 2021
Only 8% of South Sudan's population had access to electricity as of 2021, representing Africa's lowest percentage. Although eight countries boasted between 90% and 100% access to electricity, more than 50% of the population of 24 other countries were without electricity.
