Nigeria recorded a 208.5% jump in the value of ATM transactions in 2025, reaching ₦89.8 trillion and making it the fastest-growing payment channel in the country by a wide margin.
RTGS was a distant second, growing 107.4%. POS, NEFT and other channels recorded much smaller increases in value.
This surge happened even as cash became more expensive to access. In February 2025, the CBN changed the ATM fee regime, removing the three monthly free withdrawals at other banks’ ATMs and introducing a ₦100 fee per ₦20,000 withdrawn, with additional surcharges of up to ₦500 for some off-site ATMs.
ATM transaction volume grew 61.9% in 2025, while transaction value grew more than three times faster. That means the average ATM transaction was almost twice as large as a year earlier, up roughly 90%.
Across the country, total e-payment value reached ₦4.36 quadrillion in 2025. Internet/Web payments still accounted for the largest value at ₦2.21 quadrillion, but ATM usage was the biggest growth story.
