Egypt’s remittance inflows reached a record $41.5 billion in 2025, rising 40.2% from 2024 and 31.7% above the previous record set in 2021.
Remittances had fallen to $19.5 billion in 2023 after peaking at $31.5 billion in 2021, making the subsequent rebound particularly sharp.
The recovery came after Egypt’s March 2024 foreign-exchange reforms, which narrowed the gap between official and parallel-market exchange rates. Analysts have attributed part of the subsequent increase in remittances to more transfers moving through formal channels.
The 2025 record means Egypt received more remittances in a single year than at any other point in the 1980–2025 series, bringing cumulative inflows over the period to about $497.9 billion.
