Nigeria’s import pattern over the past decade highlights a strong and consistent dependency on Asia and Europe for foreign goods. Since 2013, both regions have jointly accounted for over 70% of Nigeria’s total imports, underscoring their dominance in the country’s trade relationships. In the first half of 2025, Asia alone represented 53.5% of Nigeria’s total imports, the highest in over a decade, while Europe followed with 23.1%. This reflects Asia’s growing role as Nigeria’s leading import partner, mainly driven by China, which remains central to Nigeria’s inflow of machinery, electronics, and industrial materials.
