Allocations for Nigeria’s presidential air fleet have risen sharply over the past decade, increasing from ₦4.4 billion in 2017 to a peak of ₦20.5 billion in 2024.
According to the Foundation for Investigative Journalism (FIJ), the ₦20.5 billion allocated for 2024 was spent within the first nine to ten months of the year, based on GovSpend data. This early exhaustion of the 2024 allocation underscores the high operational and maintenance demands.
Following the 2024 peak, the budgeted allocation declined to ₦17.3 billion in 2025, and further to a proposed ₦14.7 billion in 2026, pending legislative approval. While recent budgets show a downward adjustment, long-term spending has more than tripled since 2017, highlighting sustained cost pressures rather than a return to historical norms.
