Ghana's scholarly growth is one deserving of applause, not merely because it's one of the leading African scholars producing country in the US but because of its growth and resilience over the years, which is clearly visible in this analysis.
In the 2000/01 academic session, Ghana was the 7th leading source of African scholars with only 75 Ghanaian scholars in the US. Over the years, Ghana gradually climbed the rankings among African nations putting Morocco, Kenya and Algeria behind. From 7th place in 2000/01, Ghana is now the 3rd leading source of African scholars in the US. As of the 2023/24 academic session, there are 448 Ghanaian scholars in the United States, marking a 497% increase in Ghanaian scholars over 23 years. That’s nearly 1 in 10 African scholars in the US being Ghanaian. Ghana now ranks just behind Nigeria and Egypt.
